Cultivating A Sex Positive Culture
Sex is not wrong.
Dressing to accent your sexual features is not wrong. Not wanting to have sex is not wrong. Dressing modestly is not wrong. It is wrong to have sex with someone without their consent.
It is perfectly acceptable to say no. It is perfectly acceptable to say yes, as well. Consent is key.
Now that we got the basics out the way, how can we cultivate a sex positive culture in the occult community?
First, we must establish what sex is. It is a means to procreate. It is a means of pleasure. It is an act of worship towards the divine. It comes in many forms and can happen in many places. It doesn’t always involve genitals. No matter what form it takes, as long as it’s consensual, it is okay.
We must stop calling women sluts. Men and women both treat sex differently, and men should not shame women for trying to enjoy themselves. We have to stop making fun of sex workers.
“Oh, you’re a whore! Shut up hooker!”
This is not acceptable.
We must take value in ourselves. Though not because of what we don’t do, but for what we do. Virginity is not some sacred thing. It used to be a symbol for purity, but like any symbol it only has what meaning we attribute to it. If you want to be a virgin, that’s fine too.
It’s all about choice and consent. Liber Al vel Legis by Aleister Crowley sums it up perfectly.
“Every man and every woman is a star.” —AL. I. 3
“take your fill and will of love as ye will,
when, where, and with whom ye will.” —AL. I. 51
Everyone is their own person, free to make their own choices. Free to love and move freely through the universe as they see fit as long as you don’t interfere anyone elses ability to do the same.
We have to love each other. Respect each other. We can’t belittle other people for wanting to have sex. We need to change our behavior and our attitudes about sex. I believe we are getting there, but we have to change the dialog. I still hear too often women being called sluts, and it’s disheartening.
